Edinburgh City Bypass crash: Massive 70-minute queues stretching to M8 after seven vehicle accident

An accident involving seven vehicles on Edinburgh’s City Bypass is causing motorists some major rush hour disruption on Monday morning.

The crash happened on the eastbound route at the Baberton junction, with one lane blocked off as a result. There are no injuries reported but the route had to be closed as oil had spilled out of one vehicle.

Traffic Scotland reported that queues were stretched back on to the M8 with things looking “very slow”. They said that delays of around 70 minutes were to be expected from junction two of the M8 as a result. Edinburgh Travel News reported at around 8.30am that journey times from Newbridge to Dreghorn are around 90-plus minutes.

Police say the accident had now been cleared but traffic remained very slow with huge tailbacks on the route.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash after it was reported around 7.30am this morning.
